True Analog Tape Sound, where no VTM can go ...

Delivery ! What to do/know when uploading

To keep the prices reasonable and affordable we advice/suggest:

 - Stereo group tracks/exports can be max 5 minutes !

- Preferred upload as a stereo interleaved file(wav/aiff).

- Make sure you have a minimum of 2 sec pre_roll/silence before the first hit ! some space/silence at the end would be great also !

- The whole project should be in the same sample rate

(44.1kHZ to 192kHz )

- Because it's an analog loop, you'll need to cut, time align them yourself to the originals.

- No denoise is done or fades, you'll get the RAW captures.

- We only run this service once a week, so you could be  in the queue for max. 7 days !

- We appreciate full advance payment.

- Payment can be done by pay-pal, credit card & normal bank transfer.

- Let me know if you need any special delivery format, standard we go for same in, same out regarding sample_rate/ bit_rate.

- For sure we can adapt to your wishes & specific project needs, just contact me by and we'll sort out the best work-flow !

OUR STUDER A80RC 1/2inch RECORDER

Studer A80 (rc) 1/2 inch- 15/30 ips

We know this machine pretty inside out. It's maintained very well and its noise level is amazingly low for a tape machine. We regularly calibrate it  with our official MRL tape to NAB standards.

Currently it's configured to GP9 ( +9 ) but we also can run it in uncalibrated mode where we can push or back of input and output levels for desired saturation or run it as clean as possible just for the amazing image and center it can deliver to any standard digital bounce.

please note that a high_end tape machine is not a kind of effect box, it's made for capturing audio/music in a transparent way, for sure we can saturate it, but it will remain "close"to the original.

I think that's great and just what you need. It will be a great source for you to start the final sound mix with your mix tools after importing the tape_processed tracks into your mix/daw.

Extra considerations

Maybe it's wise to add a second pass to your Tape Transfer Project, where in the second pass we can push for limits and sound.

Pushing the inputs for saturation

You'll loose some transients, but if it works you'll get a rich sounding tone which compensates for the loss in transients, you know the drill, it all depends on the input and what you want.

It is wise to send your processed tracks with any VTM/WAVES/UAD  added to me, so I can hear what you want.

Go for an extra 30ips run !

30ips (high_speed) is much more hifi sounding if we stay in calibrated mode, you'll loose no transients, but will get a stellar wide image with an amazingly nice added sheen by added tape harmonics ! in most cases we avoid loosing to much low_end by configuring just a little more bass_response on our output cards ! to give that deep sound even in 30ips mode.

Added EQ or Compression

We can add EQ or Compression before hitting tape, but I think honestly , let us ride the tape perfectly with 2 different options, this will give you the best start for your final mix ! but if you have some request or good directions I'm open for using the Fairman TMEQ or TMC in your pass.

Let's try to get out the max of your sound, we never settle for average sound anyway.

Full Mixes

Tape can really work out great on full mixes. If you have great acoustic ITB mixes you really should try out our Studer A80 1/2 inch.  Just don't over_compress the mixes, nothing handles transients as nice as tape !

Drum Samples Clean

If you want wide/open drum sound, tape can deliver a more clear punch and better transients response as tape emulation software. Due to the added tape compression there will a better center image and the separation between L/R can become much better.

Drum Samples Saturated

Pushing the input level at the inputs can give your drum group export a real lush and punchy sound. A much better performance in the low_end will maintain much more detail then software tape emulation. It's not an easy job to get right .. but making a double pass will give you some options to choose from.

Strings, Guitars and more ...

Overtones, harmonics, inner detail can be enhanced by using tape. Again this is not a one set and forget process, we really need to find the sweetspot to get it right. Adding some Fairman Tube EQ and/or Compression can help me to get the best out of your material. Don't forget to send us "your" version with your processing .. we like to hear what you're looking for soundwise.
